India's National Building Code (NBC 2016) mandates a layered fire-safety system in every commercial and high-rise residential building. Skipping these isn't just risky - it's illegal.
1. Fire Hydrant System
Mandatory for buildings above 15m height or 500 m┬▓ floor plate. Includes underground tank (minimum 2-hour reserve), jockey + main + standby pumps, wet riser, landing valves and hose reels at every floor.
2. Sprinkler System
Required for high-rise residential, hotels, hospitals, malls and most commercial buildings. Pendent / upright / sidewall heads on a wet pipe network with a riser-mounted flow switch reporting to the central fire alarm panel.
3. Fire Alarm System
Smoke detectors in every common area, manual call points at exits, addressable panel with battery backup. Integration with PA system mandatory in larger occupancies.
4. Annual Inspection & AMC
NBC requires annual third-party inspection. A fire-fighting AMC ensures pumps run, valves don't corrode shut, sprinkler heads stay clear of paint, and your building stays compliant year after year.
